The Junior Symphony of Vancouver was founded by Timoteus Racz, and we had our Debut Concert on December 4, 1999. Since his untimely passing in 2012, his friend and colleague, Collin Heade, has taken on the role of JSV Conductor to keep the legacy alive. Please join us as we celebrate music in SW Washington, and please help us to support the future of music in this community by being a participant, attending our concerts, and/or making donations!
This brief video was made in appreciation for our Cowlitz Tribal Foundation Grant in January 2023. Click on the Play button to hear Victoria Racz tell you a bit about our history, and she'll also share a couple of concert clips and some photos from our archives, as well as short interviews with some JSV members!

Our heartfelt thanks to our JSV Conductor Collin Heade who stepped up to lead the Junior Symphony of Vancouver with Co-Founder/General Manager Victoria Racz in 2012 after the unexpected passing of Timoteus Racz. Collin was a close friend and colleague of Timoteus, and Collin’s leadership was exemplary! He has just announced his retirement, following our JSV season-ending concert on June 13, 2026. (He said he did that on purpose to avoid any ‘fuss’!)
We will be embarking on a Conductor Search over the summer, with the plan of choosing two to three candidates to run auditions (with Victoria), prepare music, rehearse, and conduct one of our concerts for our 2026-’27 season.
Candidates need to be experienced musicians (string player emphasis), with a strong background in music education. Music degree(s) required. Availability for our scheduled dates, and punctuality is required. Must be able to pass a routine background check.
This is a part-time/Independent Contractor job, and current payment is $1800 per session. Basic info, such as scheduling, is on this page, and further information will be sent upon request. Qualified candidates will need to turn in a cover letter, resume, 3 recommendation letters, and links to performance and conducting videos to Victoria at info@oregonchamberplayers.org.
EDIT/ADDITION as of 6-29-26: We will do a basic reference check for finalists not already known by the musicians on our board.
Submissions accepted until position is filled, so watch this website and social media for updates. No phone calls.
(Victoria here - I consistently reply to emails within one to two days, and will notify sender of receipt. I also routinely check bulk/spam folders. If you don’t receive a receipt confirmation within 3 days of sending materials, please send a ‘plain’ email with no attachments, and we’ll figure out how to proceed! No phone calls.)

Next auditions on Monday, October 5, 2026!
Applications below - look for the Word Document icon.
For auditions, the two people hearing you will be our Acting Conductor, and oboist/General Manager Victoria Racz. We only have 8-10 minutes per player, so prepare a scale in the key of your prepared selection, and we'll just hear a few phrases of contrasting movements or sections of the piece you've chosen. Please bring a copy of your prepared piece for our audition committee. We'll give you some sight-reading of a piece we'll be playing for our upcoming concert.
There is nothing to lose by auditioning! Think of it as more of a mini coaching session as we will tell each player exactly what to work on if we are saving them for a future session. We really do want to accept everyone, so we will be straightforward, and positive. (We DO want our auditioners to return, after all!) Those not accepted will have their audition fee returned. Those accepted will have their fee applied to the rest of the JSV fee, and the rest of the payment will be made that night, as auditions are followed by our first rehearsal of the session.
There is more info on our application, so click on the Word Document below, and contact Victoria if there are any more questions.
At this time we are seeking intermediate to advanced string players, clarinetists, and bassoonists, but any 'chamber music' instrumentalist may audition. (Middle school through college.)
All-State/Honor Band & Orchestra excerpts may be used for the auditions.
